Rajapalayam is a distinct native breed from Tamil Nadu. Researchers have studied dogs around Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district.
India’s indigenous-breed programme has documented and recognised the breed. It is not a general label for any white Indian dog.
What are they like to live with?
Guarding farms and homes is part of its documented history. One Tamil Nadu field study reported owners describing affection and care toward owners, and wariness of strangers.

One ICAR study found average adult weights of about 25 kg for males and 21 kg for females. One Tamil Nadu field study found a mean adult height of about 58.5 cm.
